On a daily basis, we read about cyber war. Cyber war seems to be permanent and omnipresent. But what does cyber war exactly mean?
If we thoroughly analyze this concept, it seems that cyber war is a highly contested idea. Indeed, some analysts even deny that it even exists. For instance, the concept is often confused with electronic warfare, information warfare, hybrid warfare Etc.
Therefore, it is worthwhile to analyze critically the fifth dimension.
Based on some concrete examples of cyber operations, Dr. Joris Van Bladel will give us insight into the military dimension of cyberspace. This must allow us to think critically about the cyber threats – imagined or real - we are confronted with.
Dr. Joris Van Bladel – Russian analyst and Military social scientist - is Member of the Scientific board of the Ministry of Defense of Austria, associate fellow of the Austrian Institute of European and Security Policy (AIES) and member to the Cyber platform (ETEE) of the European Security and Defense College.
