Who are we?
Nansi Van Geetsom
Nansi Van Geetsom, interior architect and service designer, instructional and educational scientist, SSD researcher and lecturer.
Nansi founded and leads the Postgraduate in Space and Service Design. She is a sr lecturer and coordinator of research in Space and Service Design. She was a visiting fellow at Jiangnan University in Wuxi China in 2013 and worked in several EU and non-EU countries to give lectures and workshops.
She is especially interested in … education and research in Design for change + development of innovative design curricula + design thinking as a basis for powerful learning environments + the UN sustainable development goals + interior&furniture&service design + sustainable internationalization + cross-disciplinary learning + intercultural encounter.
Andrea Wilkinson, interaction and communication designer, participatory design researcher and lecturer.
Andrea is a lecturer and researcher in the Postgraduate programme and is a post-doctoral researcher at the LUCA School of Arts in Genk, Belgium. A native of the US, but based in Belgium since 2010, she has worked in New Zealand and has done workshops and educational exchanges across Europe. A co-founder of the Dementia Lab Conference, an international conference dedicated to exploring how design can better serve the dementia population, in 2020 she received her PhD from the University of Leeds with a thesis that looked at how designing for one enriches the student design experience.
She is especially interested in … working with marginalized communities (people with dementia, young people with autism, people with a disability, people on the fringes of society, etc) + communication design + new and future technologies + design thinking + inclusive and sustainable processes.
Klara De Smedt
Klara De Smedt, design management, product designer and director of SSD master classes.
Klara is an experienced manager with a demonstrated history of working in the design industry. She is a manager and member of the board of De Winkelhaak NV in Antwerp, and has been involved in the development of this incubator for creative entrepreneurship from its inception.
She is especially interested in: Innovation Management + Service Design. Assertive + innovation and strategic thinking + exhibition and experience design + designing thinking and brainstorming workshop facilitation.
Tom Verbist, innovation strategist, product & service designer and lecturer.
Tom is a designer and consultant for Achilles Design since 2012 and guest lecturer for Space and Service Design. He has worked on products, services and business concepts for a broad range of clients in the retail, medical and industrial sector.
He is especially interested in development of new value propositions + design thinking + user research + making products and services stigma-free + new technology (XR, AI) + sustainability concepts (business, products, materials).
