Strengthening neighborhood health literacy

Order the book with the methodology

In the period from 2019 to 2021, a project was undertaken to strengthen neighborhood-oriented health skills in primary care. We did this with financial support from the Fund dr. Daniël De Coninck, in collaboration with the primary care zone Pallieterland. During the project, we used the HealthLi Neighborhood Compass methodology, a co-creative approach that combines ‘Health Literacy’ (health skills), neighborhood-oriented work and a navigation tool.

We documented this methodology in a book that is available for purchase through Politeia

Throughout the project, we identified a significant need to support citizens, healthcare professionals, and organizations in addressing loneliness. Where can you find information on this topic, and who can you turn to for a listening ear, advice, assistance, training, and more? Additionally, how can organizations contribute to addressing loneliness?

In collaboration with experts, professionals, associations and organizations, we developed three guides that can be used to address loneliness:

These guides have been anonymized, removing local data from the Pallieterland region. You can easily adapt them by adding the contact information specific to your own region. While you are encouraged to copy, supplement, and modify these guides according to the needs and preferences of your region, we kindly request that you attribute the original work as follows:

“ The Guide Together against Loneliness for [ target group ] developed by the Thomas More University of Applied Sciences, in collaboration with the Pallieterland primary care zone, has been licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-Share Alike 4.0 International License. ”

You can find the terms of this license here.

The guides contain numerous references to websites and organizations. There is a possibility that these references may become outdated. If you come across a broken link or an error, please let us know.
