Since January 2021, LiCalab supports Care Group Orion and the city of Turnhout for the further development of dementia care. In this participatory project, LiCalab involved different groups of stakeholders. During workshops with employees, informal carers and volunteers we mapped out their needs. This process revealed the strengths that are already in place within the organisation: motivated staff who work in a highly customised way for the residents. Small-scale living with a focus on wellbeing and a normal and inclusive way of living, based on a participatory model: that is what Care Group Orion wants to focus on in the future.

Four themes emerged from the workshops: the importance of care technology, innovative work organisation, dementia-friendly neighbourhoods and dementia-friendly architecture and interior design.
For each theme LiCalab organised an online inspiration session with national and international speakers.

These four inspiration sessions provisionally conclude the research. Care Group Orion will use these building blocks to further develop the new building of De Vliet - the campus where people with dementia live. On the other hand, Care Group Orion wants to take an active supporting role in the care for people with dementia who live at home.

The project is financially supported by the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund).
