What

Enable caregivers to create personalized aids for daily living activities using 3D scanning, 3D design, and 3D printing.

Goals

  1. Improve the quality of life of individuals requiring custom-made aids for daily activities by reducing the barriers to utilizing advanced design and manufacturing techniques, thus facilitating innovative, personalised solutions.
  2. Make new digital technologies more accessible to healthcare organizations by providing an easy-to-use digital workflow for the design and printing of custom aids, complete with guidelines for sizing, design, manufacturing and finishing.
  3. Create collaborative partnerships between healthcare institutions (hospitals, healthcare facilities, patient organizations, etc.) and technology companies (software developers, 3D printing services, etc.) by actively involving them in 35 cases.
  4. Educate and engage students by integrating the project results and tools into courses, conducting workshops and organizing makeathons involving students from various programs.

Relevance

Individuals with physical disabilities (e.g., due to stroke, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.) and those with moderate, severe, or profound intellectual disabilities frequently require assistive devices to carry out daily tasks. Currently, these individuals typically rely on prefabricated aids. Interviews with various (occupational)therapists have revealed that these aids are often inadequately customized. Through the Assist3D project, we empower caregivers to create personalized aids for daily activities using 3D scanning, 3D design, and 3D printing.

Our role

Mobilab & Care coordinated and executed the Assist3D project.
