'Democracy and human rights: vigilance, courage and solidarity’ by Deputy Prime Minister Petra De Sutter
"Never again, plus jamais... With these words, the second world war ended. World leaders vowed to 'never again' allow such atrocities to befall any person. Human rights organizations saw the light, and fundamental rights were acquired step by step.
Today, these rights are under pressure. Worldwide polarization, dictatorial reflexes and worldwide anxiety amongst other factors at the cause of it. Not only in countries that don’t always share the same Western values, but even in like-minded countries we see multiple fundamental rights being reversed."
Our guest speaker for this event, Deputy Prime Minister & human rights activist Petra De Sutter made a selection of three case studies to review and discuss with you: the issues of LGBTQI+ rights (with a focus on Serbia), reproductive rights (read: Roe v. Wade) and a discussion about Europe's inner cabinet on human rights, the Council or Europe.
Dear students, this will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to discuss this matter with a Deputy Prime Minister in person. The Minister explicitly asked for a smaller seminar in order to extend the Q&A part to hear your voice and reasoning. Don't miss this opportunity!
