Admission requirements for English bachelor’s programmes

GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To be admitted to an English Bachelor’s programme, you should meet the following conditions:

1. Diploma conditions
Click here for all information on diploma conditions if you have a Belgian or Dutch diploma or certificate.
If you do not have a Belgian or Dutch diploma or certificate, you need to prove that you meet the conditions to start an equivalent course in higher education in the country where you obtained your diploma.

2. Language requirements
You can prove you are reasonably proficient at speaking and writing English (level B2, European Framework):

  • You successfully completed at least one year’s studies in English in a secondary school or in higher education (e.g. UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia...).
  • or you have a VWO-diploma (for Dutch students) or an ASO-diploma (for Flemish students).
  • or you can prove that you passed an English language exam. This could be a certificate of the following tests:

            - TOEFL iBT, total score 66 or higher
            - IELTS, score 6 or higher
            - English language test at Thomas More (register via 'Application'); this test is organized at our campus in Mechelen De Vest room C2/24 on:

      • Monday 5 February at 10:30 AM
      • Saturday 10 March at 11 AM
      • Saturday 21 April at 11 AM
      • Saturday 23 June at 11 AM
      • Wednesday 5 September at 7 PM

3. Residence status

An identity card or passport is sufficient for students from an EU-member state. Other students can apply, but will need a valid residence permit for Belgium for the final registration.

SPECIFIC ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: ONE YEAR PROGRAMMES

After the approval of the admissions committee (cf. general admission requirements above) you may need to meet extra conditions, specific to the course you chose.

1. Interior & Service Design
Direct access to enrolment (no check by study counsellor)

  • for students who already obtained a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree:

          - Ba Interior Design
          - Ba/Ma Interior Architecture
          - Ma Environmental Design
          - Ma Architecture
          - Ma Product Design / Industrial Design / Service Design
          - Ma Furniture Design 
          - Ma Design

Additional evaluation by study counsellor:

Based on Earlier Obtained Qualifications (EOQ) & portfolio proving experience/expertise in designing spaces, objects, interiors, CAD, technical knowledge and skills (drawings), visualization skills 

  • for students with a Bachelor’s degree:

          - Ba Environmental Design
          - Ba Architecture
          - Ba Product Design / Industrial Design / Service Design 
          - Ba Design

  • for students who already obtained 120 ECTS credits (or equivalent) in: Interior Design

Additional evaluation by study counsellor:

Based on Earlier Obtained Qualifications/Credits (EOQ / EOC) & portfolio proving experience/expertise in designing spaces, objects, interiors, CAD, technical knowledge and skills (drawings), visualization skills

  • for students with any other Master’s or Bachelor’s degree e.g. in Art


2. International Journalism
Additional evaluation by study counsellor:

  • Based on EOQ for students with a Ba/Ma who obtained qualifications in:

          - Media & Communication skills
          - Basics Economics, Politics, Sociology & Culture

  • Based on EOQ & EOC for students with at least 120 ECTS-credits (exempted EOQ), proving experience/expertise/competence in:

          - Media & Communication skills
          - Basics Economics, Politics, Sociology & Culture
          - Knowledge of journalistic basic skills

3. International Media & Communication
Additional evaluation by study counsellor:

  • Based on EOQ for students with a Ba/Ma with obtained qualifications in:

          - Strategy and planning in Communication
          - Business and Society
          - Creation
          - Communication skills

  • Based on EOQ & EOC for students with at least 120 ECTS-credits (exempted EOQ), proving experience/expertise/competence in:

          - Strategy and planning in Communication
          - Business and Society
